Frequently Asked Questions
What ARE your favorite places?
I am in love with the Arctic and Antarctic and feel so drawn to these delicate places for both their landscapes, and the creatures that call them home— so that being said; Greenland and Antarctica are my favorite places I have traveled to.
I also really, really loved Alaska, the Swiss Alps and Italian Dolomites, Coron in the Philippines, and the Galapagos Islands.
What ARE your favorite cities?
I was born in San Francisco and that city will always hold the most special place in my heart. Otherwise Moscow (I’m fascinated by Russian culture), Stockholm (for great design, cool architecture), Osaka (for all things Japanese in a smaller city than Tokyo), Cape Town (for gorgeous landscapes, penguins, and diverse culture)...
I also loved Valparaiso and Vladivostok for their alternate reality San Francisco-ness.
WhERE DO YOU MOST WANT TO GO NEXT?
Polar bear watching in Svalbard, penguin watching in the Falkland Islands, snorkeling with humpback whales in Tonga, safari and penguin watching in Namibia, to climb volcanoes and explore Kamchatka, backpacking the “O” trek in Chilean Patagonia.
What cameras do you use?
I shoot with a variety of cameras, and you’ll see photos on here shot on iPhone, GoPro, Polaroid, 35mm and 120mm film cameras and digital mirrorless and DSLRs.
As of March 2019 my go-to cameras are the Leica M6, and Fuji Natura S for film and the Leica M10 for digital.
What drone do you use?
I have been flying drones since 2014 when my first drone was a DJI Phantom 1. Since then I’ve had many generations of the Phantom and Mavic drones, and I’m currently flying the DJI Mavic Pro 2 and DJI Mavic Air.
How do you afford to travel so much?
I pay for my travel the same way I pay for everything— I work. I do not have access to any financial resources beyond what I earn myself.
I may spend more than the average person on travel, but I do so by spending less money than the average person (who is like me, in their thirties) does on things like; having a family, owning a home, saving for my retirement, or regularly going out for dinners or drinks. My priorities may shift at some point, but I think it’s worth it for me to have these travel experiences now— while I my resources, responsibilities, and health allow me to!
What do you do for a living?
I graduated from university with a degree in Architecture, and have almost a decade of experience as a visual designer.
I also direct videos, and create content for social media and marketing, professionally.
where do you find cheap flights?
I usually search for flight prices with flexible dates on Google flights, and often book through the links to book on the airline’s website.
